The first step of this project was to determine what subject I wanted my zine to focus on. This was the most enjoyable yet grueling process as I had many ideas that would take on vastly contrasting design directions such as focusing on planes or jewelry. I finally decided to showcase an otherwise unseen aspect of my professional skills; photography and the cameras I've used throughout my tenor as a hobby photographer. This decision drove the creation of my photography zine called Focus.
After deciding on my zine's subject and square dimensions, I created a typeface that would perfectly fit into this square shape and accentuate the edgy, messy yet clean, source code written pages of my zine. I went on to create a style guide to clearly outline the zine's design direction including typefaces, colour palettes, and page layouts.
The next step was to create a series of postcard advertisements that would introduce viewers to the zine and the subject of the issue. Finally, I began the development of the zine by collecting photos, deciding on themes, outlining specific cameras, and writing each section. Displaying my photography in an engaging way for viewers was an extremely rewarding process that I'd love to iterate upon.
